How can I get my dwarf hamster to trust me?

I have never had any dwarf hamster, but I do think it is more necessary to make him feel comfortable first than to bound with him. He is a young and healthy boy, and you will have plenty of good time with him, lucky you!

A few minutes ago I learned something about Ares, something that makes all the biting make sense! Okay, so I read that you can give them uncooked spaghetti to chew on. So I did this and he just stopped biting me! I served it to him with a glove and while he was chewing it I nudged him gently onto my hand. BAM. He LAID DOWN on my hand and just kept chewing the spaghetti. Turns out he just wanted something to chew.

It can take them up to a couple of weeks to really settle into a new cage so it could be he doesn't feel it's his yet, give him time to settle in & don't do anything more than spot clean for a few weeks at least.
If he's having trouble getting up into the tubes then I would either adjust the angle to make it easy or just take them out.

Cut to 2 days later. I was letting him walk around on the couch, then he slipped off the edge and I caught him. Then he just looked at me all surprised and when I put him back on the couch, and he fell again, and I caught him again (without gloves!) and then he didn't bite and just kind of relaxed. So I put him back on the couch and now he's actually hopping off the couch to get my attention so I'll pick him up. Hamsters are weird.

Update: we just got back from a weeklong vacation, i had someone take care of all my animals. I went to play with him- he sniffed my hand and hopped on. Absence makes the heart grow fonder i guess
