Question Syrian hamster help!

Hey I’m actually new here and I have a 6 month old female Syrian hamster called Lexi. I recently upgraded her small cage to a big wooden mansion as a way to stop her from bar chewing and keeping me awake at night! However she has now began chewing the wood and keeping me awake! I’m unsure as what to do! I spent so much on this new house and putting it together but she won’t stop! Also she has a huge amount of toys to chew but the house is much more interesting!! I can’t move the house anywhere as it’s so big and only just fits into my room comfortably!! Please help!!

Hello and Welcome to Hamster Central.
Is Lexi chewing a part of the cage where she could possible escape from?
Have you tried Lexi with whimzee chews - as hamster loves these and they do enjoy chewing these up - maybe that will help as a distraction.
I also found with some of my girls that a playtime in the evening would help tire them out and gave them additional enrichment and this would help reduce their fixation to chew their cage whilst I was trying to get to sleep.
I hope Lexi stops chewing her new cage and allows you to get to sleep.

Hi thank you so much for your reply! I’ve decided a purchase a large glass enclosure with glass shelf’s. I hate having to move her around every night since putting her back in her bar cage! I also purchased some confetti carefresh bedding, a snug winter warm hideout and a boredom breaker chew toy. Can not wait for it to arrive! I think she’s awesome and I’m happy to give her a good quality of life love letting her roll around in her ball before I go to bed too! Thanks again

That's sounds like the best solution of getting her a glass tank - I'm sure Lexi will have lots of fun in her new cage and I'm sure she will love her new bedding, hideout and chew toy as well!
