Nervous about Stressed Hamster
Hi everyone, I have noticed some changes in my hamsters behavior over the past week and am nervous she is overly stressed out. Some factors that may have attributed to this that I could think of could be change in weather as it has gotten colder, or as a result of rough play. My boyfriend's niece was playing with her a little over a week ago and I was concerned she was being too rough with her. She used to be so friendly with me, and eager to run on her wheel or go in the ball, but now she just sits in her house. I have gotten her out a few times with a lot of coaxing, and once in the ball she does run around but she just seems less interested. We were also wondering maybe she has outgrown her cage and current wheel. We do have another hamster who is slightly smaller but has the same accommodations and seems fine; however, he is not played with as he does not like being lifted.
Hoping for some help on how to bring her back to her previous playful self!.

Re: Nervous about Stressed Hamster
It's quite likely that being handles a bit roughly by a child has scared her & made her a bit nervous, they do get less active in the winter months though so it could possibly be that, make sure the room is warm enough at all times & that she has lots of shredded tissue to make a nice big cosy nest.
I would just keep coaxing her out for short periods, reassure her & give her some time, if she has lost her confidence she should come round again with a bit of TLC.

Re: Nervous about Stressed Hamster
Tiny children hands can be quite rough and squeezy it was probably that. Give her some time and hope for the best. You may need o begin the taming process again
