Red face So...my hamster behaves like a scary zombie

My Myachick was doing this when he was about to wake up, so I guess him was still in sleep. Basically what he did was stretching his tongue and mouth, clicking his teeth, opening his eyes without consciousness, and not knowing himself so ugly...
Is it a normal behaviour? Is it because he was scared?

Myachick looks normal to me, too.

Aww, your little Zombie is so normal. Harvey's done that. It's quite amusing to watch.

He looks like he is talking Maybe he was objecting to being held. He probably is a bit scared and I think they don't like being held very long, especially before they're tame and used to you. He probably wouldn't look like that the right way up

Thank you guys for confirming it to be normal~ I was shocked when I saw he behaved like that though. I was not sure if Myachick was talking since he seems to be quite unconscious. I normally hold him to sleep like that for around 40 minutes and he is quite asleep all the time and sometimes dreaming with his belly up.

I like this tutorial on hand taming hamsters It focuses on them learning to trust you.

Taming handling hamsters

I don't mean to be rude but I would never use a restraining hold on a hamster except for a short time for a vet appointment maybe - it might stress them.
