Does my hamster LOVE ME???
Ok, so my little adorable rodent is 1 year old now, but her behavior sometimes surprises and confuses me ...
She never bites, she is absolutely 0 aggressive, but she never actually wants to sit in my hand or be peaceful when out of the cage. I wanna prove my husband that she indeed LOVES ME.
Every time I make kissy noises she gets very excited and runs towards the end of the cage where I am... (i usually give her food so that could be it too - she associates it with food)
Every time i give her attention (talk to her, or just when she hears my voice) she gets even more excited and starts to make those little squeaky noises.
Does she love me, or she just loves the food??

Re: Does my hamster LOVE ME???
Who knows what love is for a hamster! You certainly seem to have a good bond with her, I wouldn't really expect a one year old female to want to sit still in your hand, younger hams & females especially do tend to be a bit hyper!

Re: Does my hamster LOVE ME???
I think that you and your husband are both right. I'm sure she loves and trusts you; you seem to have a wonderful bond with one another and she thoroughly enjoys the attention. Of course with that being said, it also helps that she associates you with food, too, lol. By nature, hammies are extremely food driven so you being the main provider of food also makes her bond and love for you grow. Also just to reassure you, female hamsters definitely do tend to be extremely hyper and less inclined to just stay put for long sessions of cuddling. They will run around like crazy and then periodically come back for those more tender, snuggling moments. My female Syrian Eros usually loves to explore, but she also loves to cuddle and give me whisker kisses. It just depends on her particular mood at the time, lol. Every ham is unique and even the particular bonding experience with an individual ham will vary at times. Just know that she loves you in her own very special, hyper way.

Re: Does my hamster LOVE ME???
I do believe she loves you, her getting excited when you make kissing noises and talk to her shows she loves the interaction. Keep doing what you're doing, such a lovely bond.

Re: Does my hamster LOVE ME???
Thank you for your replies. It makes me glad that I was right, that she indeed loves me (as much as hamsters can love^), also I was expecting more - to show to my husband since he says that hamsters have no idea who we are and that they don't care of us. That breaks my heart lol
As I'm typing this she is right here staring and sniffing (probably expecting food)

Most pets would eventually learn who provides food, including hamsters This is even true of some reptiles!I can't say that they love exactly like humans(they're not social to begin with,so it would just not be realistic)but I can definitely say with absolute certainty that trust is developed with positive association.

Hope so. I'm really attached to my little Nibblerina (she is like my baby, no jokes) and it would break my heart knowing she doesn't really like me..

She does love, trust, and appreciate you - how could she not? Just trust in your bond and enjoy being a wonderful hammum to your darling Nibblerina.

Re: Does my hamster LOVE ME???
My husband doesn't like my hamster any more. Or my sons hamster. Jealous.
