Compulsve chewing?
Tiki is driving me crazy every night. She is biting her ceramic water bowl, and it can go in for hours. It's not that loud, but it can't be good for her in the long run.
Is there anything to do about it?
And is there anything i should be aware og with this behaviour?

Re: Compulsve chewing?
You could remove the bowl and scatter feed her. That would keep her busy collecting the food.

Re: Compulsve chewing?
Sorry I miss read. Don't remove the water bowl unless your hamster has a water bottle.

Re: Compulsve chewing?
I wonder if it is like bar chewing. Distraction may help and also making sure her wheel is working. Chewing things like bars, bowls can be a sign something is wrong in their environment. It could also be attention seeking.

Re: Compulsve chewing?
She is driving me crazy! She has every possible chew toy, working wheel, 10 cm substrate(if not more), sand, multiple hide aways, cardboard tubes, even an egg box with holes and substrate. She is also mainly scatter fed, and gets cardboard boxed treats regularly.
How can she be bored?

Re: Compulsve chewing?
What happens if she has a bottle, does she chew that too?
Maybe try a different bowl see if that makes a difference?

Re: Compulsve chewing?
She has never really had a bottle, and I would prefer to keep it that way, but I might have to try it soon.
I switched her bowls around last night, and she still went for the water bowl. I will try switching the contents today.

Re: Compulsve chewing?
I much prefer water bowls too & so do my hams but ultimately you have to do what works & you need to break the habit, it can't be good for her teeth I wouldn't imagine.
I would switch to a bottle & see how she gets on, if she's ok with that then I would stick with the bottle for a while then maybe try both & if she doesn't resume chewing then you could take the bottle out.
