Default Hamster keeps biting me! :(

I have a young syrian hamster, maybe around 10-11 weeks old. He's lived with me for around 2 months. I was able to tame him after about 1 month. Recently he's been biting my fingers, which he hasn't done before until now.
I also recently took him to the vet for just a check up to make sure nothing was wrong physically with him. My vet said that him maturing could be the reason for his biting.
Although he doesn't bite hard enough to break the skin, it's enough to hurt pretty well.
Is there anything I can do to try and stop him for biting me? I used to be able to hold and cuddle him, but now when I try to hold he, he'll nip my finger.
(He also lives in an bin cage which is 700 sq in and his wheel is 11 in)

Is he biting you when your hand is in the cage or when he's outside the cage?

Usually it's inside when I reach in. To give him treats or to try and lift him.

He might be acting a bit territorial towards your hand. If you have a box or a basket, and your ham has to climb into it before you lift him out, you might find that if he's sitting on the sofa with you or in the play pen he's no longer interested in biting.
Daisy had a little kids shopping basket that I let her climb in before I carried her downstairs because she went through a phase of nipping and I was worried I might drop her.

I'll give that a try! I'll let you know if it works!

Another possibility is that he is nibbling as a natural behaviour. Hamsters have poor eyesight so will sniff/taste things that they gone across, and biting is instinctual as they are rodents. He doesn't know that the biting is hurting you. It doesn't sound as though he is nipping from fright if he's nit breaking the skin. He may just be chewing on you as he would any other object. Hamsters usually learn to stop biting if you adjust move your hands every time they prepare to/or do bite. Just move the area of skin they are biting away from them and repeat if they find a new spot. It's best to not let nibbling become an ingrained habit.
