Yay! That's great news. It often happens like that, I find. You get a long stretch of time where it appears that you are making no progress at all. But, in the background, you are and this becomes evident when suddenly you make a massive breakthrough all at once.

How lovely that he is more confident, climbing on you and letting you pick him up a little. He may have days when he is less confident.

Keep going depending on how he is with taming.

Hello again, Buddy is now 12 weeks old and I would go as far to say he is very tame now. We don't pick him up but instead let him come to us and he happily climbs on our hands etc. However, one problem I'm having is that although he shows no aggression to our hands, he keeps biting my feet! Last night he drew blood and he tries to have a little nip each time we are in the pen with him. He likes us in the pen as he enjoys climbing over our legs so I don't think it's a nervous/scared response. Is there anything I can do to stop him? Has he reached an age where they become a bit nippy? Many thanks x

lol! sorry, I shouldn't laugh but I did find that quite amusing I would just cover your feet so he can still climb on you without getting to them.

Cypher, it was quite comical.. especially as I had to balance like a flamingo with blood dripping all over my cream carpet trying to persuade him to get back in the cage so I could go and get myself a plaster! I'm thinking really thick slippers perhaps.

haha oh dear, sorry but I couldn't help laughing at him biting your feet either lol Hoping he grows out of that habit soon and that your foot makes a speedy recovery.

If anyone is reading this thread in the same situation as I was when I posted it I just want to say, perserverance and patience really does pay off. We now have a very happy, confident Hammy who lets us pick him up and runs to the cage doors when he sees us. We have built a good relationship with him in the few months that he's been with us and I'm sure it will only grow stronger. So please, if you find yourself in the same place of despair as I did, don't give up hope. Just work at their pace and don't rush anything, it will happen.

If you have time on weekends without going outside, you could simply place your hamster in your shirt pocket with some treats and food and little veges. Hamsters around 7 weeks are still babies and they do sleep a lot and usually sleep anywhere where they feel safe, warm and comfortable.
When my Myachick was 6 weeks old, I placed him in my bath robe pocket with some treats and broccoli. He will be sleeping there for 6-7hours and I was doing my programming assignment meanwhile.
In this way, you could easily build the bound and your hamster will feel you as his/her closest creature. I did spend A LOT OF time with my Myachick when he was a baby and he never gets frightened whenever I approach him. Instead, what he does is to ignore me and continues to do what he is occupying with.
BUT, you should be VERY CAREFUL!!! Since I can't guarantee every hamster would love to sleep long outside his cage or nest, and placing him with you can be risky since sometimes you could simply forget about him in your pocket. It is quite common you got hit somewhere at home by something, but please be EXTREMELY careful when you have your hamster with you.
