Default Sleeping at night?

So, I got up to go to the toilet last night and when I turned the light on I saw that my hamster wasn't there! I quickly panicked thinking she had escaped but she was quick to pop her head out of her little house. This started to worry me, has she started to sleep through the night and day?

But then I woke up this morning and she came out again and as usual I did some taming with her which made me question: Is she only going to her little house and coming out when I'm awake?

What are your thoughts?

Sometimes hamsters keep funny hours. There are ones who don't get up until 1 or 2 am. She could be one of those. Or, alternatively, she may have been awake inside her house and having a groom or something. I have watched my hams on a night vision camera, and you'd be surprised at all the things they get up to - it's not just wheel running. If she is well and healthy, I am sure she isn't sleeping through the night and day! If she's new, she may also be getting used to her cage still. It might help to have a lot of covered areas, deep substrate and places to hide so that she doesn't feel exposed when she comes out.

Not sure if this applies to all types of hamster, but they are crepuscular animals. They are most active at dusk and dawn. However all of of our 3 hams had times when they seemed to be running on the wheel most of the night, and sometimes I felt they weren't doing anything but found in the morning all the bedding had moved to the other end of the cage.
