Re: Hammy changed personality
Could this have been the vet visit though? Can they die after a shock or a fall? I feel like I've let her down- she was terrified yesterday morning and she went when she was on her own

Re: Hammy changed personality
Edit : posted the same time.
I don't think it was the vet visit Kippy. You knew she was ill beforehand as you asked here. In all honesty she would not have survived even with treatment if it was one of the conditions I mentioned above. There seems to be a number of hamsters with tumours in some of the P&H suppliers and I would inform them what has happened. I would also ask to speak to the practice manager at your vets to explain what happened on your visit and express your dismay at the outcome as well as the fact that this vet was clearly wrong in saying there was nothing wrong with her. Even I could see there clearly was.
Bless her heart she is free at the bridge now. Big hugs to you xx
You DID NOT let her down. You tried to get her treatment. Animals are very private and often need to be alone as they cross they bridge. She will have been deeply unconcious and in no pain and she will have known she was loved during her short well cared for life.
I think you need to check her too very gently. If she is very poorly but still hanging on you may have to ask her if she has had enough and then try and find another vet to see what they think. I am thinking of you and know what a heartbreak it is to see a loved one like this. Your decision, made from love will be the right one. Go with what your heart tells you.

Re: Hammy changed personality
Thank you all so, so much. I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't had this forum, I wouldn't have had a clue what was going on. I can't believe how upset I am about this- I got close to her so quickly, again it's nice to speak to people who understand why I'm so upset over a hamster!
I am relieved that she is ok now, I knew that she wasn't herself and she's been going down hill for days. I think I knew she had gone before I even checked- I left her apple and she was always such a piggy with apple! I knew she wouldn't have left it xxxx
I will take another one on in time, I know I can give a hamster a good life and I want to have the opportunity to do that again. I will be sure to introduce her/him to you when we are ready to adopt another hammy x

Re: Hammy changed personality
Please get in touch if you would like to have a breeder contact when you are ready. I hope time heals you and you remember the happy times she had.

She will always live on in your heart & I'm sure when the time is right you will give another ham a lovely home.

Re: Hammy changed personality
It seems you done your absolute best for her and explored as many avenues as reasonably possible. You certainly came to the right place for advice, what some of the members on here don't know about hamsters is not worth knowing, make no mistake.
I'm massively sorry for your loss. You have the utmost respect from me for the way you tried to get help for your little lady.
