Behaviour during heat

Today was the first time I was certain of Lil being in heat.
She had a much stronger aroma and when I turned her on her back, she seemed to have some discharge around her genitals.

I also stroked her lower back and she froze and stuck her tail high in the air.

She wasn't at all interested in playing in her playpen, which is a first.
She hid away in a shoebox the whole hour I had her out.

Is this sort of behaviour synonymous with being in heat?

The scent and the tail lift, standing and the glazed look are classic signs she is in heat. We find our females tend to be much more active during heat and also will attempt to escape and wheel run more intensely.

As mentioned above, those things are all completely normal behaviors. The smell is quite something sometimes, so just be prepared

Yeah, the smell was a really pungent version of her usual scent that I liked so much. It's kind of put me off it now

My last female syrian Twinkle had quite a smell to her when she was in heat whereas Xena didn't.
