Default Not using house.

I recently (last night in fact) moved my Syrian into the Kerry, she seems happy enough and settled quickly but I noticed this morning she's sleeping outside of her house. Just curled up in the substrate, no nesting materials, just curled there right next to her house. My bedroom can get chilly so I'm a bit worried about her being exposed? I put all her old nesting materials from her old cage into the new one and into her new wooden house but she's not using it. Normal?

I wouldn't worry, she won't sleep out in the open if she's cold, if she only moved into the Kerry last night then I would just leave her to settle & sort things out for herself.

I've got to make a few minor adjustments later when she's out of her cage for free roaming time. I might open the entrance to her house a bit because it's a bit small (she's a particularly big Syrian).

I'd say it's fine some hamsters just like the open better then houses you shouldn't worry.

It could be because the house is new and smells different/unfamiliar. Once she gets used to it she is likely to move in.

It can take a while for hamsters to settle in to a new cage so don't worry, it's perfectly normal. If she gets cold, she'll dig herself in. She may stay outside and make a best, she may try somewhere else or she may move back in to her house!
Try to think of last time you moved house or deviated your room - it takes a little while and a couple of tries to figure out where you want your furniture & all your stuff to go. It's a bit like that for hams too!

She seems to have made herself a very comfy nest, even though the house is spacious and warm. She's a funny little thing.
She's settled into the tank really well. Seems a lot happier. No more pacing, or begging to come out every waking moment. Using her wheel a lot more. But she is a chewer and she's chewing the sealent on the tank but honestly, as long as she's not hurting herself like she was in the Barney, I'm happy she's happy. I've got some different chew toys coming for her in the post as she doesn't seem to like the ones in there now and prefers to chew her natural wood burrow box which I'm ok with.

Great news that she's settled into the tank! They're funny little things - she might just prefer a self made nest! It's good that she has the house as an option though and she may well move in in future.

I'm hoping she will if it gets cooler, the only thing is that cleaning the tank around her hard built nest will be very difficult.
