Sleeping in the tube!
Hi everyone. Just looking for some advice. I've just got a new Syrian, Kenneth, who is in the Hamster Heaven. He seems to like it so far but is still settling in. Anyway, he set up a nest yesterday on the ground floor in a little box I gave him, but, overnight he's dragged all of the nesting material into the tube and has set up his bed in there! He's snoozing away but I'm worried about the ventilation and he looks rather squashed! Has anyone else ever experienced this? I'm just not keen on the tubes to be honest. Is there any way I can remove them and block the holes in the cage? Although I don't want to annoy Kenny as he's spent time setting up his new bedroom!

Re: Sleeping in the tube!
It's a very common problem with new hamsters & the tubes need to be removed as it can become very unhealthy very quickly & the sooner it's done the quicker they settle again to sleep somewhere a bit more appropriate!
The Hamster heaven comes with blockers that go over the holes where the tubes are so if you bought your cage new you should have some.

Thanks for that. Ah, I'll block them up once he's up and about later.

Re: Sleeping in the tube!
If I can get the tubes off! My friend set up the cage for me and I'm not entirely sure how to get them off?!

Re: Sleeping in the tube!
I never used the tubes with mine so I'm not sure tbh, I know it was a bit of a fiddle to get the cap things in but I think (rather distant memory now lol! that they just twist into place so I guess the tubes should just twist out, maybe someone else will have done it more recently & have a better idea.
Don't know if it helps but it should look like this when blocked off.

Re: Sleeping in the tube!
Oh thanks Cypher! I've managed it now as Kenny woke up so I did it, it was so fiddly to pop them in securely! Took ages. Now he is poking his nose around wondering where his tubes are, I feel bad but I know it was the right thing to do and hopefully he'll soon adjust. Other than that I think the Heaven seems like quite a good cage. Most shop bought ones are so small that it makes me want to cry!

Re: Sleeping in the tube!
I've got Hamster Heaven, and I took all the tubes off and blocked it all up too. Yes it was amazingly fiddly and took ages, but at least you only have to do it once! Everything in Harry's Hamster Heaven is free-standing now - wheel, tubes, bedroom, seesaw, climbing frame, etc. It's a lot of fun doing all the re-furnishing!

Re: Sleeping in the tube!
I much prefer the cage without the penthouse and tubes now. The penthouse door looked too easily pushed open for my liking!
