Default Buried her bowls before a thunderstorm

So, the funniest thing happened yesterday. My mom got woken up by some commotion in the living room. She went to check it out and found Marti going crazy with digging. The substrate was going in all direction. Marti is not much of a burrower but she has her crazy moments. My mom went back to sleep, and a few hours later a thunderstorm started. It lasted for about thirty minutes and went away. I went to check on Marti and found that she had piled almost all her substrate on top of her bowls. By that time she was peacefully sleeping in her nest, so we came up with a theory that she had felt the storm coming and decided to prevent her food from drowning. I know animals feel weather better than humans, so could it be the answer?

It could possibly be that, but I'm not necessarily sure hamsters could truly think ahead to that capacity. It's probably more so just her digging just to dig, or because she smelled something that was threatening to her outside, and she attempted to bury her food. It takes a lot of brain power to sense the storm, connect it to rain (something they've never experienced) and then theorize that the rain could flood and sweep away food. I could see it in mice or rats (who do think to this degree) but not really hamsters. I personally think it's more likely to be coincidence or other factors, but alas, we'll never really know
