Unhappy Female dwarf hamsters fighting. Blood drawn.

Hello,

I have just recently bought two girl dwarf hamsters approximately three weeks ago.

I could hear them squeaking and fighting but googled it and found they usually do this.

However, I have saw them fighting and it looks very aggressive. Today I found them fighting and on inspection found one was bleeding (in her lady bits area!). I have seen various posts ... Some saying keep them together, some saying split them...

I have split them for now as I was worried, but I am not sure?

Can anyone please give me advice?

Thanks,

Beth T

Hamsters are solitary rodents, and are best kept apart. Syrians especially, and I'm sure someone will tell you about Dwarves.

You've done the right thing to split them up, once one or both have been injured like that then the fighting isn't going to stop, unfortunately it is very common for pairs to fall out as they mature, females tending to be even more territorial than males & then they need to be kept apart.
They live very happily alone so don't worry, it may take them a little time to adjust but they will be fine living in separate cages from now on.
I wouldn't be tempted to try reintroducing them at any time now, not even for out of cage time, they will need to be kept completely apart.

Best keep them apart now, I'm not a fan of keeping any hamsters together if I'm honest but most of the time this is what happens.
They'll be good on their own so no worries.

I've always heard the saying that once blood is drawn you have to seperate them. Sorry this happened, hopefully the one that got hurt will heal quickly. I'd keep an eye on the wound to make sure it doesn't get infected. XX
