What does the bite mean?
So far Marshmallow has only nibbled me because my hand smelled like cornflakes and he was testing to see if the giant meat sticks were edible or not. However today I noticed he did two new things. First: when I placed my hand into the cage to start letting him get used to my hand he nibbled but in a clingy way. Usually he'd do a nibble and sniff pattern but this time he had front paws grabbing my finger and he nibbled persistently. I couldn't tell if it was because of the smell of food or he suddenly thought I was a chew toy. Second: when I placed my hand inside again he did a small pounce and nip action, then scurried away. I use the word 'nip' instead of 'nibble' or 'bite' because it was slightly deeper than normal but drew no blood. It definitely broke a teensy bit of skin tho. Is it because he felt threatened by me? I really appreciate the huge amount of help this forum has provided.

Re: What does the bite mean?
It does sound as though it might have been a nervous nip, if he keeps doing that try getting him used to being handled outside of the cage & try to avoid putting your hand in the cage until he's more comfortable with that. You can always do food & water while he sleeps for a while.

Re: What does the bite mean?
I agree with Cypher about it being a nervous nip. All hams are different when it comes to our hands.
