Taming tricks or suggestions
Hello everyone!
I have had an adorable winter white hybrid for about a month now and he (Dean Martin) has made some good progress. He takes treats from me, will climb into my hands, etc. He DOES NOT like being pet or touched however. We get out of his home and into a bathtub for playtime everyday with lots of different toys etc. I was just wondering if there are some additional steps I can take or if anyone has any suggestions for some next steps in our bonding process.
Also, I just want to thank everyone for being so kind and supportive here in HC. It has been so nice to hear form so many people who have been willing to share their information with a first time hamster Dad So thank you.

Re: Taming tricks or suggestions
Hello, fellow first time hamster Dad!
My hamster, Dorothea, is a syrian, so I guess that might be a bit different. However, she has gotten more and more confident and comfortable around me over time. I've had her for a week tomorrow. Maybe time and patience is the way to go? =)
Also, Dean Martin looks super sweet!

He is an adorable little ham
Some hams just don't like being touched or stroked much so it may just be the way he is but you could try a few things to get him more comfortable with it, if you put some treats on your palm & just make a ring with your thumb & finger for him to pass through to get it he will most likely to be happy to do that & will get used to your fingers brushing him as he goes through, you can also just make a tunnel with your hands, cup one hand over the other & let him run through like that.
Do you sit in the bath with him during play time? I find Russians generally tend to enjoy just using you as a climbing frame if you do!

Re: Taming tricks or suggestions
Thanks cypher! These are great tips! I will be sure and try them. I have not been sitting in the tub with him (only because he has so many toys in there) but will try this out next time. He does like crawling up my hand and getting on me.
Thanks so much as always!
