if my hands smell of food, like if ive been eating a juicy peach or holding biscuits any of our hams would nibble my hand. the worst thing if they bite you is it's so difficult to stop yourself dropping the ham and hurting him badly.
so i always wash my hands before picking one up or stroking. and if you have to take one anywhere, carry it in a box or ball so it can't nip you and you drop it.
I've had Daisy for just over a week and she came to the cage door when i opened it and started to climb out for the first time this morning. i was so happy.

Such wonderful news about Igor sitting on your hand. You did right changing your taming method to suit Igor, the more you do it the more confident you'll both feel. I had to do that with my past hammy Twinkle when she bit me and drew blood, going back to the basics so helped and we had a truly wonderful bond.

How wonderful! It's great we can all share these stories and experiences of our hamsters progress!

Another small progress guys!
So I've 'held' Igor a few times,
He's climbed into the food pile on my hands then been set back down,

Today I was giving him a meal worm treat and I gave him the treat then gently touched his back with a small paint brush, then I gave him a piece of food and touched his back again, he seemed to accept it looking round each time but not running away,
Then I gently stroked his back with my finger, this time he looked around and ran away a little, but came back warily so I gave him a piece of food.

I feel this is another small step in the right direction
He's becoming slightly tamer each week
It's slow progress but very worth it, I feel he's just wary and a bit cage terratorial but going slow seems to be working well for him

I'm very proud, it's my birthday today so this feels like a small birthday present from my little guy

Great progress with Igor, sounds like the both of you are more relaxed. Do this daily and tell him what a good boy he is, they do love praise.
Happy Belated Birthday xx
