Default Wierd noise

Hi everyone,

So Ive had my tv off today and been fetting stuck into some revision. All of a sudden I heard this strange noise, which thinking about it sounded like air coming out of a balloon. It was only for literally a second and then it stopped. It scared the life out of me as it was quiet in my flat. Then I realised it had come from the cage, from Khali. I got up to see what was going on and she made a faint little noise again then stopped and hasnt made a peep since. Khali has only ever made a noise once before when I think she was excited ( i got home much later than usual and let her in her playpen and she kind of squeaked at her wheel before running like a maniac in it). She has been up pottering about and since gone back to sleep with no more noises. Is this normal, do hamsters snore or dream? ( thats sounds so ridiculous). I will monitor her when she wakes up to see how she is. Baffled

Did it sound sort of like this?

Hamsters make odd sounds here and there so I wouldn't be too worried. Is it possible something nearby upset her?

Unless (like me) she got upset by the mass amounts of revision I have to do, Id say no. Maybe she was just grumping in her sleep if she wasnt comfy. It was just a shock as its only the 2nd time she has ever made a noise. Maybe it did sound a bit like that video, but it was only for a second (that hamster in the viedo sounded like a little pig haha)

Hmm I know you said it sounded like air coming out of a ballon, but could it be described as chattering? Sometimes when hamsters feel threatened or territorial they click their teeth together which can make a fast sort of popping sound. Probably nothing to worry about.

It's possible she was just grunting a bit out of discomfort. I wouldn't worry over it, our hams can be interesting little critters for sure

Hey Jennie F, did you ever find out what this noise was? Only, I think Mushu might have done it this morning. I could hear him rustling around in his nest when suddenly...

AAAAHHH-CHOO!

It sounded exactly like that. Like a slightly squeaky human sneeze. I got really worried that he might have a cold, but he came out to stuff his cheek pouches full of breakfast and certainly did not SEEM ill. No runny eyes or nose. I hope that he is ok.

No I never did. She has only done it once since. I dont think its anything to worry about, as she was acting normal both times after. I just think its either a little frustrated noise that she makes when she can't get comfy or she is just sighing in her sleep haha. Just keep and eye on that cute little ham of yours and watch for any changes. Apparently hammies can make lots of different noises, but it is a bit of a shock when a usually quiet ham makes a noise haha.
