Default Bar chewing

Hi guys, I know there's plenty of threads out there about bar chewing, however i've tried everything I can possibly think of, and he stilll does it! however, i've noticed it's mainly when I come and sit and talk him is when he starts, else hes running on his wheel!
Seems a bit weird why he does it, so its not for attention..
Any suggestions on why would be appreciated

Have you read this thread? I know my hamster sometimes chews the bars when I go and talk to him. Do you feed treats through the bars? I know Jasper does this when he gets seeds through the bars.

Does any time outside the cage to play? I give my girl alternating goes in her ball for 10-15 mins, then back in her cage, and then in her playpen for about 20-30 minutes, then back in her cage. Then repeat. Usually do this for at least 2 hours a night and I have noticed her bar chewing a lot less and when she does its only because she wants out again. Before doing this I only really let her out in the ball for about 30mins a night and someone on here suggested that I should increase hee time outside and it seems to have helped

Bar chewing can be a result of a number of different things. From boredom, to pent up energy, or too little space/stimulation. You could try adding more toys and a wider variety of the ones you have and see if this helps to curve the behavior. Something else you can do to directly fix the issue is add wooden laundry clips to the area which he chews on! To permanently fix the issue, adding a strip of plexiglass all around the perimeter of the bars (wherever your hamster can reach) will stop him from being able to do this. If he does it when you're nearby, it may be his way of asking to come out of his cage which is why it's important that you do not take him out and reward this behavior as it will only perpetuate it! Hope the problem resolves soon!

Reply to your and Jenny's thread. Thanks for your reply! Yeah do let him out but he actually bar chews the run cage! He squeels in his ball and he also climbs the bars in his run. He's just not happy in or out. I don't feed through bars. He had chew sticks wooden toys a tunnel and a big wheel plus scatter feed.
Thanks for suggestions guys!
