It sounds like Penny is just a chewer then. Some of them do chew wheels, whatever they are made of. I should leave it in though or it'll stress her having it removed (ours went completely bananas once when I had to take his wheel out for a couple of days because it was broken). Just keep an eye on it Good job it wasn't a really expensive one!

I am going to get her another wheel anyway as it sounds like she might have some how worn this one out. every so often I can hear a grinding noise then it will stop when I check it out. it's been driving me crazy! it might be because it is not sitting flat on the tank Base and is sitting on the substrate so the spindle is at an angle so I may have to find a bit of think wood for it to sit on.

Shes now chewing a new corner, in the same place as the last corner she destroyed. Not seen her on her wheel since the first day or two she had it

Yeah I have put a big cardboard toy thing covering it just now which seems to be doing the trick but don't know how long that will last. Think I'll be paying a visit to the DIY shop to try and find wood to cover it

In this post, someone mentioned Whimzees, so I bought them for my little Syrian. She was afraid of them! She almost jumped out of the cage, and wouldn't come out of her house until I removed them. Has anyone else had this reaction? And should I try again to give them to her?

That is extremely strange.Could you try another size or shape? The stick type ones might be less intimidating than for example an alligator Whimzee due to being a lot smaller, plus in my experience the sticks are a bit cheaper even if they don't last as long.If not you might want to try adding some sort of food to the chew to make it more enticing, for example high quality no sugar added all natural peanut butter(only use a tiny amount, less than what would lightly coat a fingertip).Or for something less sticky,hamster-safe baby food is wonderful but the chew would need to be removed before it gets soggy. You can also try putting small seeds in the chew(millet works just fine especially with the toothbrush chews),or maybe tiny bits of fruit(freeze dried or safely dehydrated,if fresh isn't a good option).
