Default Scenting

Hey everyone.

Now that I know why Khali (aka pongu) smells so bad ( on heat) I am starting to recognise the signs before the stench arrives. Ive noticed she only smells when she plays in her playpen and this evening she is almost falling over when scenting eveything in there like a crazy monster. I assume that this is normal, as she is just leaving her smelly smell around for any males who may be interested? Not that there is any in my flat but i bet any ones in the neighbourhood could smell her miles away. Thank god its only for a day at at time haha

"I smell the smelly smell of something that smells smelly" - Spongebob squarepants ( haha I might be 31 but its relevant)

Females in heat unfortunately smell terribly! Some more than others I find. My neighbor's hamster has a particularly horrendous smell to her when she's in heat, but my first ham remmi didn't have much of any scent to her. It's not unlikely that she's leaving her scent about to attract males (unfortunately for you!) I know my hamster Duncan LOVES to mark everything he comes into contact with so all in all it isn't an unusual thing. Good luck dealing with the stench haha!

Please tell me that your neighbours hamster doesnt smell that strong you can smell it in your place??

I think she keeps getting a whiff of herself. She'll sniff herself and just look dazed for a few seconds as it to say "phew that stinks" haha. Yeah, welcome to my world mini pong. I can also tell by her fur, as it changes to a slightly pinker shade on a stripe across her neck and where he "dimples" or scent glands are.

Oh no thank goodness I cannot! I visit my neighbors occasionally and I always have to see their little fluffs (typical me lol) and my hands reek after holding her. I don't own any females at the moment so I get a break from the smell

My female Syrian doesn't smell at all since I had her 3 mo ago. She's a rescue so I don't know her age. Is there a certain age they stop going in heat?
