Pizca's weird behaviour
Hi! I have a question, maybe someone can help me...
Pizca is my hybrid, one year and eight months old. The last month she was a little slow, and I thought she was getting old. But she lost weight too, and I realized she was ill. So, past week I went with her to the vet; he told me that she probably had a tumor in her pouch, and the only solution was surgery. I cried like a child. Next morning, there was nothing in her pouch, I think maybe was an abcess and it broke. But she was still ill, she did not eat, she was very weak... So I take her in my hand and hold her. It was the same for two or three days, and now she is really better, she eats and runs and looks better, but now she does not want to sleep in her house! She is awaken all day, and only sleeps when she is in my hand. She waits for me and calls me ! It is too weird, because she never was a "human lover" hamster... Why is that? Is she still ill? Does she suddenly hate her house? I am worried...
P.s. sorry, my english is awful and it is not easy to write with a hamster in my hand...

Re: Pizca's weird behaviour
I'd say that as long as she's healthy and happy, the behavior is normal. Her suddenly liking being around you could have something to do with the surgery and her recovery. Just keep her comfortable over the time she's recovering and perhaps she'll continue liking to be handled! Hope she feels better soon

Re: Pizca's weird behaviour
Thank you! Yes, she is clearly feeling better, she is just... Too affectionate, for her usual character... I love it, I really like to be with her, I am just worried because I don't see her sleep, except in my hands

Re: Pizca's weird behaviour
She's likely still getting sleep, just when you're not looking. A test done in rats has shown that they cannot survive without getting the full amount of sleep required each day. It also showed that when tired enough, they'll sleep. Don't worry about it too much, as long as she's feeling better and is happy, then she's getting all the sleep she needs

Re: Pizca's weird behaviour
Maybe she's realised that you went through a lot when she was ill and how you looked after her after surgery. Enjoy your little one, she's letting you know she appreciates you.

Re: Pizca's weird behaviour
Animals no matter how large or small develop empathy with their owners, sometimes it is unperceivable but it is there, she knows you need her and being with you and sleeping in your hands is her way of showing it, after what she has gone through and the care you have expressed to her..
