Default does your ham have a 'frowny face'? xD

Ok, if you'd said to me before owning hamsters that they can have actual facial expressions, I'd have said you were crazy, but...

A little while back, Esme was digging in her playcage - it's a DIY plastic bin enclosure filled with substrate. I bury nuts and biscuit and other goodies, and pop her in every night for a nice 15-20 mins of diggy time before her pouches are full and she asks to come out.

Anyways it was nearing 2am and I was nearly falling asleep waiting for her, so I had to end the playtime a bit early. I went over and asked if she was ready to go home - she ignored me, busily foraging. Apologising to her, I scooped her up (she wriggled!), lifted her, turned her around...and burst out laughing. I swear to god, she was GLARING at me.

Look at that glower!

"You interrupted me. You suck, Mummy." xD

It's made slightly more comical by the one dangling foot, haha. Does your hammy ever pull this face if you do something they don't like? Or do they have other ways of showing displeasure?

Awe what a cute little grump you've got there! My ham shows his displeasure by nudging my fingers very forcefully with his nose if I'm holding him when he wants to run free. Hams are silly little critters

Yes! That is what my Hammy does when he first wakes up! Or, sometimes he pulls the "i'm guilty" face and looks up. Hes soooo cute!

LOL she really looks like she has a frowny face , but I think that sometimes is just that, how the camera captured them. I can tell when my ham is upset by how he behaves, but I don't know if I could tell it by the way he looks at me. On the other hand I would swear that I have a couple of photos of him that he looks like he's smiling and I'm sure that he wasn't particularly pleased by anything.

When I read this thread, there was one of my hams that came to mind...

This is Lady May. She crossed the bridge over a year ago but she was a hamster who liked things 'just so'. If you moved things then she'd give you her cross face.

The look on her little face! Absolute disgust haha. I dont think I have seen Khalis grump face. But I have seen (on numerous occasions) her "michief face" (usually when she has returned from an escape or been winding me up), her "wasnt me/i got busted" face and her "zoom face" (ears back, streamlined, lets run at mum face).

Drago Khali does the headbutting thing like Duncan does too. If im holding my arm in front of my chest and she wants to go under instead of over my arm, she headbutts my arm/wipes her tiny cold nose over my arm until i move it. I imagine if i didnt move my arm and took a picture of her face, it would be a pretty funny face to see!

Oh my gosh this is such a funny thread. Only hamsters can balance being cute and angry simultaneously! Mushu’s best frowny face was the “yuk!” expression he made every time I gave him baytril, but I never did take a picture of that.

Fluffagrams Lady May’s expression could only be apty described a the stink eye in that photo! But still an adorable one.
