Just give the cage size time, and if it eventually becomes appropriate to do so you can always upgrade later Sudden upgrades to massive cages are not the way to go,but gradual and gentle upgrades are definitely a lot better.

So agree with Cypher about the cage, some hams feel safer & happier in a smaller cage. When Archie got older and was ill, I put him in a slightly smaller cage and he loved it.
When you do decide to move Rosie into a bigger cage, try introducing her to it over a period of time so that she can adjust.

Sometimes a hamster will never settle in a cage that meets the often quoted 'ideal cage sizes' and will need to live in something smaller and trust me, that's okay because what is more important is your hamsters happiness. If she feels more content in a smaller space then I'd leave her be and upgrade at a later date if need be. This is how I upgrade all of my Chinese and find that they'll soon let me know if they're not happy.

It can take some planning to fit things in a smaller cage but it is possible if you prioritise what your hamster will get the best use of.

Thanks everyone. The info on cage sizes is helpful. Does anyone know what a minimum size for a robo is. At the moment i am just happy seeing her out even for such a short time but it woukd be helpful to know the minium size for the future incasr she is ever ready to move to a larger cage.

There's not really one set minimum, but if we're basing it off a good standard comparing it to the equivalent of a 6 inch long Syrian in a 1,550 square inch cage is giving about 258.3 square inches per inch of hamster.Going from there with the maximum robo length you get 258.3x2,or 516.6 square inches.Something like half a Detolf could work well, and you could use the other half for another robo or a Chinese hamster or even as a transition size for another dwarf species or Syrian.

I wouldn't stress about minimum cage size recommendations, opinions vary so much, maybe more for robos than any other species.
The size of the ham isn't really a factor, the main things that determine the cage size in my opinion are confidence & how active they are, some hams are really busy & needs lots of space others less so, you really just need to observe your ham (whatever species) & give them what seems right & appropriate for them.

There is no enforceable minimum however certain organisations will suggest their own cage size guidelines. As a general rule, Hamster Central do not support a minimum cage size but prefer to focus on the right cage for the hamster and that will depend on their personality and temperament.

I honestly wouldn't worry about upgrading the cage as yet. You may find that you don't need to upgrade it at all but if you do, you can cross that bridge when you come to it.

Hi im not sure i understand all that but my cage is 2684 square cms according to DiY cage reviews ) so how much bigger do i need it (Rosies a robo) i have to be honest i would like a detolf but im not sure if i can fit it anywhere. It would be ideal as i have 2 little girls. That being said i won't attempt to do anything until Rosies more confident.
