Default Help! I think Rosies scared what do i do?

Ive had to catch Rosie in my hands during the last 2 cleaning outs as she wouldnt go in a tube or box. Since then she hasnt come up on her wheel at all and i dont see her at night (she used to be on her wheel all night! ) i also used to see her when i went to bed and she would sit on my hand and eat seeds. At first i thought it might be her wheel as it did need re oiling. That made no difference though. I started putting piles of food out to check she was coming out. This dissppears each time. She doesnt seems ill when i cleaned her out. I can only presume i really stresssed her out which i feel awful about. What can i do to make her less stressed. Thanks.

How often & how much are you cleaning? If you do too much that in itself will stress her out & she'll associate the box or tube with stressful things so do try to keep cleaning to a minimum, spot cleaning daily then maybe just do partial cage cleans when you need to & not all of the cage at once.
If you can leave the box in the cage or just use it to hide treats in when not cleaning making it more of a game she should be a bit happier to continue going in.
How long has she been acting like this? Even after being a bit stressed out they usually settle back into previous habits again with a little time.

Thanks for ypur reply. I clean her about every 3 weeks. I dont do spot cleans because i cant see anything to clean (when ive cleaned her it all seems to be underground. ) The carefresh is brown so i guess that doesnt help.( She has about 30 litres in it each time.) Rosies been like this for just over 3 weeks. This its the only thing ive done differently so im presuming this is the reason. The box is permantly in there. Its a tube that had dog treats in. I dont have a problem with Daisy going in hers and shes out every night. I just dont know what to do.now. she doesnt seem ill but i dont see her at all so i can only think shes getting the food and going back underground.

It does sound as though she has got a bit over stressed & is just keeping to herself & only coming out when no one is around.
Hopefully over time she will get a little more confident again, for now maybe try taking the box out & putting something new in with some treats hidden inside, try wrapping them in toilet tissue so she has to work a little to get to them & gets used to being in the new box, she may not make the same association with that box next time you need to get her out so you won't have to chase her around catching her when you need to clean.
Scatter feeding, either hiding the food in different places or just literally scattering it over the substrate can encourage them to come out & stay out for longer so that might help too.
If she continues to be really nervous it might be worth considering a cage change even if it's only temporary, I don't know what cage she's in now but sometimes it can help to have them in a smaller cage, I had to do this with my Russian recently as he became very nervous & I put him in a small bin cage, he quickly became more confident again & after a while I was able to move him back to a larger cage.
Some hams can be intimidated by too much space, & what defines too much space depends entirely on the individual so it's not always easy to get it right at first.
You need to have a nice hideout for her but not make it too easy for her to just hide away completely & avoid any interaction.

Great advice from Cypher.
I've found the wrapping treats in toilet paper makes it more interesting for the hamster and having some extra hidey places works too.
I got Harvey a flower pot from the pound shop when he got fed up with his coconut and I also got him a crinkle den & tube. I swap the den & tube about.

That sounds a great idea. Ill start wrapping treats tonight. I give Rosie pumpkin seeds niblots and sesame seeds as treats. (Not at the same time though) . I will also look for another box or tube i can catch her in. She does have a nescafe cappicino sachet box in there which she has started using as a store for her food. I cant use that to catch her in though as it has 3 exits. At the moment Rosie is in a zoozone 1 is this too large for her at the moment? If it is what size do you recommend? She has been in it since June so would she be scared in it now as this has only been happening 3 weeks? Is it always a good idea to swap their toys around Rosie and Daisy have had the same ones since i split them back in June. I like the idea of the coconut house as i hidey hole are they quite large as Daisys has levels so i couldn't put one under it(mainly because she has massives amount of bedding. Rosies is all one level but tapers down as she has a living world water bottle that needs to be on a flat surface and a large wooden house. Thanks for your help asI do just want Rosie happy again.

I didn't think you'd had her that long, cage size is much less likely to be an issue in that case.
It may just be the catching & cleaning routine as you thought.
Do give the other ideas a try though, if she uses the other box for her stash leave that well alone! Even when cage cleaning leave the stash or replace it with fresh.
I find my hams don't like things being changed much in the cage once I have a set up they like, maybe keep one small area where you might try swapping one or two things around.
If you don't have space for a coconut small terracotta flower pots are a great alternative, all of mine enjoy having a dig around in those & they're good for nails too which is a bonus!

I would suggest instead of catching your hamster try and let it be their choice as much as possible. This helps a ton when you want a hamster out of a cage for any reason, whether it be something like cleaning or just out of cage time or during the taming process.Lots of things will work for this, like appropriately sized mugs or upside down houses.I've even used a plastic garden tool I intended to use as a cleaning tool at first and that worked really well for my Syrian

I think that was the general idea with the original box Amity but it's not always so easy with a robo that doesn't want to cooperate

That is true.I'm very lucky to have an extremely curious and friendly(despite loving to taste people)hamster, though not all hamsters are going to be like that even if given lots of time!
