Dwarf Hamster not sleeping in his bed after cleaning...?
Hi, my 15 month old dwarf hamster has all ways had a favourite sleeping spot, a little hamster head bed. It's been his nest all the time i've had him. Usually, there is no issue with cleaning. He goes back in and just makes im self at home again. THe thing is, this time I noticed that he wasnt in his hide thing. He was sleeping in a little box in the opposite corner that didn't have bedding, just saw dusty stuff. Is this normal?

Re: Dwarf Hamster not sleeping in his bed after cleaning...?
It's not at all unusual for them to change where they sleep or have more than one nest site but with any behaviour that's really out of character it's worth keeping a very close eye on them in case something is wrong.
Has anything else in the room changed that might make him want to sleep in a different spot, anything like being too close to a heat source or a cold spot at this time of year can make them seek a better spot to sleep.

Re: Dwarf Hamster not sleeping in his bed after cleaning...?
Hi thanks for the response, nothing outside his cage has changed really. Though I just noticed something about this particular corner, when he was younger there was a box there for him to climb on but he was insistent he wanted to go underneath it. The box there now is so he can go in but i've only just put it there. However, he'd lost interest in it for months...
Also, just sitting with him, he isnt actually asleep, it's like hes half trying but he's sort of just sat/layed there

Re: Dwarf Hamster not sleeping in his bed after cleaning...?
If you've changed things in his cage then may be why he's trying to sleep there, what bedding does he have? If they have lots of shredded toilet tissue for a nest they will normally pouch it & carry it off to where they want to sleep.
