Hi! Sorry for the late reply, however did it stop?
Could they have possibly've been fighting?

As Hamsterless has suggested it could be because they were fighting. However, depending on how "new" they are to the cage, it could just mean they/he is nervous. Some hamsters are vocal when their nervous/scared/agitated!

Hi & welcome to HC.
Can you give us a little more information?
How long have you had them?
Screeching is usually a sign that a hamster is scared, has been upset by something or is ill or in pain, if both are doing it then it's not likely to be the latter.
Do you have any other animals around them?
They can be upset by all sorts of things in their environment, other animals, sudden noises or scents, over cleaning of the cage & various other things but it really is impossible to say for sure without knowing more about the situation.

Thanks everyone for replying it was because they were nervous but I'll keep an eye on them so if they are fighting I can separate them. Thanks Everyone
