Default 2 syrians in same room?

Hi i've wrote a few threads about injury to my new ham, just wondering as i have two syrian male hamsters, will it be ok to have them both in the same room but seperate cages? Will they smell eachother and get upset?

Hello there!

It's perfectly okay to have two hamsters in the same room! As long as they don't ever meet or cross territories that's completely fine

That seems fine to me as long as there's no way they could find each other.

It should be fine to keep two hamsters in the same room and I know of several people who keep more than one hamster who do this. My three Chineseys (two girls and a boy) live in quite close proximity to each other and they've never had an issue with it - other than them all wanting seeds at once when I go over there!

I have all mine in one area in one room and except for a bit of noise when a lady hamster is on heat my males are perfectly content. In fact I often see where a younger male actually enjoys the distant company of an old male and some even go through a mourning period when the older male passes on to rainbow bridge.

Well considering tonight's events im not so sure... Place Bobby in room with Hammie, let Hammie into his playpen as i do by handling. Hammie was running mad (unusual) and trying to escape in which i was able to grab him gently before escaping. Hammies usually dopey.. Bobby however is monkey climbing over his cage and now Hammie is climbing his bars too!! Not sure what's happening but their both very hyper tonight lol!!

You will find that your male ham will compete with your new ham. Him monkey climbing in his cage is him letting you know he's still there and will want more attention now you have 2.
Archie was like this when I got Twinkle, he would compete against her on his wheel and it was so funny to watch them both going so fast. I always made sure that Archie got fed first, got his treats first, got his time out/play time first and I gave him more extra cuddles.
Archie did settle down and your ham will too.

Two hamsters are perfectly fine to be in one room as long as they are not in very close proximity to each other. Good luck with them

It should soon settle down, mine (Chinese & Russians) tend to wheel race or attention seek when a new one arrives but they calm down & ignore each other fairly quickly.
Lots of people keep several hams in one room & even with stacked cages it's not a problem.
