Default Peeing in bed?

Hi all,

Haven't posted on the thread in a while, but have a question that I can't seem to find anything on. We've had our Syrian since last October, and he would now be about 1 years old. We never had any problems with toilet behaviour before, however we noticed about a month or so ago that Faolan started urinating in his bed.

We suspect that it might have started as a response to stress, as we had to move house twice in the space of 2 weeks and I noticed the urine in his bed around this time. We have been trying to clean his bed out with disinfectant spray to reduce the smell, replacing it with fresh bedding, and putting some of the dirty bedding in a different corner to encourage him to urinate elsewhere. It seems to be working a little bit, but he still seems to be urinating a little bit in his bed also?

Is there anything else we could be doing as we are at a bit of a loss as to what to do? He seems okay otherwise - eating and drinking as normal, just slowing down a bit with old age. Still regularly using his wheel and no other signs of changing behaviour at the moment.

Default Re: Peeing in bed?

Given you've all had a big upheaval moving twice in two weeks, I'd say it's that making him feel unsettled.

I have two Syrians. Their cages are opposite sides of the front room, of course they never meet. One of them broke his leg a few weeks ago and has been in a hospital cage in my bedroom to keep him quiet. He is fine and adapted quickly to his new environment. The other hamster in the front room has reacted badly to the change - he moved his nest, changed his pee place three times (I did a lot of sniffing and spot cleaning lol!) and has been generally jumpy.
