My hamster is biting(?)

Hi, i'm a new hamster owner and I just got a hamster. his name is tuck, and he is adorable! he's a longhaired silver sable syrian male. today I started feeding him sunflower seeds from my hand. he nibbles on my fingers and it doesn't hurt, but i was just wondering if this is qualified as biting and if i should be worried. thanks!

Funny enough, my hamster did this to me yesterday! He nibbled my finger until i pulled it away. nibbling is different from biting, biting is self defence/fear and you'd know about it. I think because you were feeding him, he might of accidently thought your finger was food too because their eyesight isn't the best and mainly rely on sight/smells etc. I wouldn't worry if he only does this when eating or in general, hamsters do nibble and it's normal.Nibbling is usually associated when hamsters are exploring/checking you out or they smell food on you. Hope this helps!

That's just hamster exploring, when you hand feed they can smell the food on your hands, sometimes it takes them a little while to figure out where food ends & hands start but that's certainly not biting & nothing to worry about.
