One pink lump on female hamsters bum area!

I'm not sure whether to be worried or not by the following!

I noticed today while my little syrian Mabel was playing that she has one pea sized pink lump on her bum. She keeps sitting on it and is acting much like she usually would so I don't believe she's in any pain. I've been reading around and it seems there may be a chance that I actually have a little boy on my hands but I can't be certain! She's gone to hide in her bed so I couldn't get photos but I'll try and get one in the morning!

I'm just worried that it may be something other than potential testicles. I don't want to upset her by waking her up to take her (or him) to the vets if it's unnecessary!

She's around 12 weeks old I believe so not very old at all!

Edit: this isn't my hamster but it looks a lot like this but without the actual big testicle sack currently.

It does sound like she might be a boy

They can pop out and look like pink lumps - first time I saw it I thought our hammy had a tumour. Hello Mr Mabel!

There are sites showing how to sex hamsters. Maybe you could take a look at the placement of things. Don't feel bad, my first hamster, Waldo Pepper, turned out to be a female .

You can tell if it's testicles if the lump comes and goes. If it is there permanently and you think it might not be one of the testicles then it could be an idea to get it looked at as occasionally there are other things, but in a hamster that age, and from what you describe, it sounds like testicles. If they get all warm and cosy sometimes, they descend and pop out.

This is a pic of our Syrian who got all warm and things descended. He actually fell asleep sitting on top of them after the photo was taken.

Well it's official... Mabel is now a Mr Mabel! I took her to the vets this morning just to be on the safe side and they confirmed that she is actually a he! They were absolutely lovely and didn't charge me a penny because it was such a fast diagnosis! He's back in his bed now sulking because he wasn't keen on the vet haha.

Thankyou for all your fast replies though. It really eased my mind this morning!

Lol! I bet he's sulking if he's a boy ha ha. It does sound like he needs a nice treat though after the humiliation of his examination

and the upheaval. If he had been a girl he would probably be ripping things up and making a big stink by now.

He's had a lovely chunk of broccoli (shoved in his pouch) and one of his favourite yoghurt drops (which he can never resist munching on there and then!) and seemed to get over his indignation and let me stroke his head. Now it's sleep time and time to come to terms with his new gender identity haha!

And I was convinced he looks so much like a girl! Its probably all his long lustrous fluff!

This was post crawling from the travel cage onto my bed and broccoli but pre yoghurt drop! Clearly I wasn't fast enough with the better treat!

He is cute in his Sputnik. Actually the longer and fluffier his coat, the more likely he is to be a boy! Unfair though that seems.
