Not using wheel as often anymore
I have Shady for about a month now and in the first 1,5 week I made the mistake of giving her a 4,5 inch wheel. It wasn't like her back was arching much, but a 4,5 inch was simply too small. I gave her a 6,5 inch wheel (same type and color wheel) but she isn't using her new wheel as much as she used her old one. She used to run on her wheel every night for at least 20/30 minutes straight and now that she has a bigger wheel she's only using it for a few minutes every few days. I check her wheel every day to make sure it's not stuck and it's working fine. Does anyone know what could be the issue? Is there anything I can do?

It may be because it's new and she isn't used to how it works yet. I wouldn't worry about it

But it's the same wheel, only bigger.. And she has been running on it but not as much as she used to so that gives me the impression that she knows how it works. But maybe I'm just overreacting..

The amount they run in it isn't always a sign that they're having fun In fact sometimes if they run in it a lot it can be a sign of stress. I would just give it some time and maybe put a treat in it to encourage her. If it is the 6.5" silent spinner though, they do have spinning issues these days. Does it spin really free on its own if you push it with your finger?

It spins on its own, I do have to mention that it is an old Silent Spinner and not a brand new one. I've read about new SS's having issues and my bf's stepmother had an old SS laying in the shed so I used hers instead of buying a brand new one. I do think that I'm overreacting because I just walked into Shady using her wheel, lol.

Lol. Maybe it's just because it's new and she's not used to it. I'm sure it'll be fine once she's used to it.

Re: Not using wheel as often anymore
It will be bigger and the weight of the wheel will feel different to the smaller one so she will be getting used to it and maybe needs to find a new technique, or maybe it tires her out more due to having to use more power to move a larger wheel. Like Serendipity said she'll be fine once she's had it a while and used to it

She may be waiting until nobody is around to run on her wheel. You never know what they do when nobody is watching
