Hoard gone!
I woke up this morning to check on Willow, and I found that her hoard was completely gone! She has put it all in her food bowl and in the place where the hoard was is a mountain of substrate. Is this normal?

Re: Help!!!
Just let her do whatever she wants.Maybe offer a second bowl with new food instead of trying to completely remove her preferred hoard location.

Re: Hoard gone!
Hmm - whenever I've found a mountain of substrate it's usually on top of a hoard lol! To bury it. It sounds like she has been doing some housekeeping. Maybe she has discarded the stuff she put in the bowl. Sometimes I'll find a bit mound of substrate full of bits of food outside the front door of Charlie's house - he chucks it all out when he wants it taking away! I once found it piled up in front of the door and it was quite stinky so maybe he wee'd on it and decided he didn't want it in there any more.
It's fascinating what they get up to. I should just observe - she must know you empty the food bowl so I should carry on as normal. If she doesn't like that it has been taken away when you empty the food bowl and clean/refill as normal, then she won't put it there again! I suspect it is food she has discarded and kept the best bits under the mountain

Re: Hoard gone!
Thank you for the explanation Serendipidity - Willow's very fussy so wouldn't be out of the ordinary for her!
UPDATE: The naughty girl has now taken to putting her food in her wheel - looks like the bits she normally refuses to eat (bright orange pellets from Harry Hamster) so I'll probably take them out.

Re: Hoard gone!
Ha ha - maybe that's so she can stop for a snack while she's running - or maybe she just discarded them while she was running. You could try leaving those bits there maybe - sounds like laziness to me (ie why leave the wheel to get food when you can just stop for a snack). They'll probably fall out when she runs in it anyway.

Re: Hoard gone!
Oh okay lol, it's just the noise of food clattering around in the wheel really annoys me! But yes I agree they will fall out eventually

Lol! It's so funny when they put their food in their wheel.

Re: Hoard gone!
LOLOLOL. That's always loads of fun! For the hammy, not us. So many times I've had the pleasure of getting out of bed to remove bits of food from an exercising hammy's wheel.
