Default Hamster rolling

My dwarf hamster (winter white/hybrid) started rolling around like he does in his sand bath, but outside of his sand bath. He runs on his flying saucer and takes a break to roll near his water bottle. There's a stone in front of it as well. He used to take breaks to sit in his tube and cool down or rest, I guess, but this is totally new.
He climbes and gnaws a little on the bars, but that's for attention I think.
Does he roll for attention as well, or is he stressed? Or is he itchy? Or could it be a mental thing?

Do others have experience with this as well?

I don't know, I'm such a worrywart when it comes to my hammy.

He is rolling to leave his scent and mark his territory. They do this when stressed or after a cage clean when nothing smell like them.

Thank you, but she's a girl, I thought they didn't have scent glands? And her cage hasn't been changed, not have her toys. It assures me you're not saying 'GO TO THE VET' or something haha thank you

Or are hamsters just silly sometimes?

All hamsters have scent glands behind their head on their neck. She is just letting other hamsters know that it is her cage.

My female Syrian did this all of the time, it is scent marking i believe.

She used to do it on the walls on the kitchen bench when i had her up there (her favourite place) and i think she enjoyed it to be honest, she was normally having a good yawn and stretch concurrently, looking like she had a smile on her face

I don't think it's anything to worry about!

It sounds as though you're ham is either scenting or just cleaning as he does in the sand bath, quite normal behaviour!
