Default Will you please sit still!

I've had my Syrian Hammy Rambo for about a week and a half now, taming is going well, he'll eat from my hand, only nibbles gently now when I move him to his play pen and pet him, and is starting to respond to his name.
The problem is, however, that whenever I or the missus handles him (we kneel over the playpen and only lift him up a short distance, in case he goes for the leap of death!), he tries to run up our arms and escape!
Do you think he'll grow out of this, and just sit in our hands and allow us to pet him?
He's a fast 'un, I swear down he moves faster than the two Robo's my mum used to own. He's also managed to leap from the lip of his food bowl, into the tube connecting his wheel, in one movement. A leap of about 20cm, straight forward. So I don't want him getting out his playpen!

Any ideas what to do, fellow hammy lovers?

You sound to be doing a great job with the taming. Youngsters are always a lot more lively and do settle down and become calmer eventually. A bit like toddlers at playschool they are everywhere and can't sit still for two minutes but by the time they reach secondary school they are calmer and can concentrate and take their time.
Our babies all do the up the arm trick which is actually rather nice as it shows they are confident and trust you. The other side of a fence or pen is always a lot more interesting that being inside it so they always try and escape. Make fun games for him on the bed with pillows and books and let him go under covers and along safe corridors. Ours really like supervised stair climbing and it's amazing how quick they can go up stairs.
Enjoy the crazy baby days! It sounds like you have a real wee character with lots of get up and go!
