Default Taming?

I've watched numerous taming videos, read articles, talked to a few other hamster owners, and still no luck. I've had my syrian Acorn for about two weeks now. He doesn't wake up 'til I'm passed out most nights, so I try to gently wake up him in the evening (which I've read is OK to do). He sniffs at any food I offer him but he won't take it. When he finally does leave his little house, he runs to another corner and hides behind his wheel. I tried the bathtub method hoping maybe that would work but realized it only stressed him out. I'm not sure what to do to get his attention?

Hello, welcome to the forum. Two weeks isn't very long to have him home & he'll still be adjusting. The main thing I'd say from what you've said is that you need to gain Acorn's trust. Small steps. And each stage reached before rushing onto the next. Some hams get tame in a couple of weeks, some take a few months. It's not set in stone. Take some time on here browsing the thread boards for taming tips but to start with I'd say:
Try the tissue trick. Put some loo roll up your sleeve or down your top for a while & then place in Acorn's cage for bedding. It will help get him used to your scent.
Don't chase him round the cage with treats. Find something he really likes & hold it out for him until hey gets confident to come & try it. Something stronger smelling works well, as it makes them more curious.
I found with my nervous Syrian that when she got to the stage of taking a treat from me that if I held something bigger and held onto it that she could nibble the other end, it got her used to having to stay out.
Remember that in the wild your Ham would be food for predators, particularly birds so your hand coming from above, like a claw, could spook him.
Be patient, let acorn set the pace and you'll get there

Hello and Welcome to the forum, he is still adjusting to hes surroundings, some hamsters take longer than others. Try gently stroking your hamsters back, and try to give it a treat, after a while try and scoop your hand under The Hamsters body, but don't do a Claw-Machine way because that scares them as they think its a bird (Because in The Wild, that would happen.)

Just be patient and soon you will be friends.
