sleeping in a different spot?
Hello! I just went out to check on my hamster and he was asleep in a different spot and I could see his food underneath him. Before his nest was above his food hoard but it was underneath the tray so it was dark and now he is just out in the open. Why has he moved?

Re: sleeping in a different spot?
for what its worth, my hamster sleeps in 3 different locations in his bin cage. They sleep where they feel most comfortable; or perhaps where a particular kind of good was cached away. So yes, I would say quite normal.
On other hand, if he refuses to use a particular nesting area, it might be nothing more than it has become too dirty for him. Hamsters have a high sense of smell; even they have limits.

Re: sleeping in a different spot?
Hello Hollykw, Who knows? Hamsters do all kinds of things like that. He could be warm, or he just decided it was the very best spot. They can also suddenly decide to change their wake up time too. As long as the hammy is eating, sleeping and grooming okay, the hammy is okay too.

Re: sleeping in a different spot?
simple answer to this one is cause he wants to, they do what they want to do when they want to do it lol I have had a couple of hamsters move all their bedding to the other side of the cage so I have moved their bed and they have been fine.

Re: sleeping in a different spot?
I think it's just one of those things that they do.
Lady May had happily slept in her wooden hamster cottage for months and then all of a sudden she decided that she'd rather sleep in her hammock instead. She's free to make up her mind and she'll probably change it again when I least expect it.
