Default Re: New to hamsters - Taming advice.

Hi.
I recently got my hamster Timmy on the 23rd of December (2015) he has been settling in okay but is still quite jumpy. I've had to handle him, only briefly, for when cleaning put his cage, but ever since he has been desperate to get out of the cage, but doesn't trust me enough to handle him. He woke up a couple hours ago and around an hour ago he started gnawing on his cage, he has a plastic cage and has started clinging to the wire at the top when he climbs on top of his tunnel. I feel really bad because I am unable to try handle him because I have a cold and I am making sure to thoroughly wash my hands before stroking him. If any has any tips on how to get him to gain my trust please reply, I will read all x

Luna's still the same. I'm thinking of wearing gloves as it seems to be skin that she reacts to. Might help

We had a bit of a break through. Luna allowed my daughter to stroke her back - she was distracted by food at the time, but still a step in the right direction

Aww lovely. My Gopal will allow strokies when he is eating (I have had him over a month now but he usually comes out very late at night so I rarely see him).
