Default Multiple hammies squeak/chirp

So I have all my furries in the same room and tonight while the lights were off, one of the furries (it sounded like it was coming from the direction of Lady Penelope, the new syrian girl) made a squeaky/chirpy noise. For a second, everything went silent (or at least, what little noise I could hear went away) and then she let out another one. This was met from a squeak from another hammie, and then from another. I think in all, three or four hammies squeaked/chirped after one another for maybe half a minute (oddly enough, with the exception of Chublet, only after another hammie had finished their lil one--and it was always one for some reason--squeak/chirping) Chublet didn't join til the middle of it and let out a couple of quiet chirps in quick succession.

Now Hazel Nut used to be a chatty lil girl when she was younger though when she chatted, it tended to be more than a single chirp/squeak at a time and the only other time I've heard any of my hammies squeak or make a noise was the first time Hazel Nut went into heat after Chublet hit puberty--that was quite a night of what I can only assume was Chublet's attempt at serenading Hazel Nut with the sound of his chirping love. What I've never had is what happened tonight--which seemed almost like they were communicating with one another.

I'm not really concerned as there weren't any successive squeaks/chirps from a single hammie at one time (is it weird that I could tell their squeaks/chirps apart from one another? I'm certain the chatties tonight included Lady P, Hazel Nut, and a few quiet chirpings from Chublet (which makes me wonder if maybe Lady P, who is in a bin next to him, is in heat). There was another squeak/chirper who I can't tell was Sgt Pepper or Skippy (I think it was Skippy but it's hard to tell exactly which cage the noise came from). In any event, the "chatting" went on for maybe half a minute max and then all returned to normal though I decided to check on everyone anyway.

I'm just curious whether anyone with multiple hammies in the same room have experienced something similar or ever had any of their (singly housed) hammies "chat" with one another? I don't believe anything is wrong but I've also never experienced what seemed to me almost like a somewhat odd hammie "chat" of syrians and possibly a dwarf.

My two hammies, Hurricane and Patch (Syrians) did this a couple times. Hurricane would squeak and Patch seemed to be answering her with a chirp of his own - it scared me the first time i witnessed it as Patch was never a vocal ham but Hurricane had him going round his cage chirping loudly, my other Syrian Midnight joined in with them occasionally XD

Mine chat to each other occasionally, and they are both rather talkative anyway. I can tell their squeaks apart too, like you can tell human voices apart! I imagine Nibble is telling Glowy to shut up being so noisy, and Glowy is blowing raspberries back at him.

LOL. I couldn't help but think of the Walton's saying goodnight to each other. Maybe the hams were doing it too. Goodnight Hamtime. I would be thrilled if my hams did that.

That's so sweet! Some Hamstercommunicating once the lights went out sounds like they were saying night night lol! If only we could understand their language.

Hahaha well I do believe you have heard some mating calls. Its funny how some females are really quiet, then there are some, like my Honey that chirp their little hearts out. I have a video somewhere of one night when several of them got involved it is hilarious. It is too funny if you have them all in the same room and when that first chirp happens everyone freezes, stops wheeling, drinking ,all movement stops

haha, thanks everyone! It's a bit of a relief to know this back and forth between hammies isn't unique to this group. I didn't think anything was wrong but there was a part of me worried it may have been a sign of stress.

SecretlyDying- It's so surprising when you suddenly start hearing from a previously silent hammie!

Bertiebobbins- LOL! A hammie blowing raspberries....that is a sight I want to see! I can almost imagine Glowy's lil paw coming up to his chin and wiggling his lil toes while he blows said raspberry!

WinnietheHam, Erin R- I think Lady P may have been in heat as the only other time I've heard Chublet chirp has been when Hazel Nut was in heat. Perhaps while Hazel Nut becomes more...erm, perfumed, while in heat, Lady P becomes more chatty. Unfortunately for the apparently hormonely-charged Chublet, I'm not allowing that sort of hammie-panky in my house!

DrKMcK, Thin Lizzy- Oh my, as cute as it was, I hope they don't make a habit out of having long drawn out chats with one another on a nightly basis! Although I trust Hazel Nut to keep them in line as one of the oldest, if not the oldest, syrian, as she is very particular about acceptable behaviors (from other hammies at least--she believes she is the exception to prove all rules)
