Exclamation Nerves or too excited?

Little Background
So I got my female hamster, Solaris, around June 14th.
In the beginning I was slowly trying to gain her trust with treats and introducing my scent and hand in the cage. I did this for a few weeks. I won't lie, I hit a stage where I lost patience and didn't have the confidence to pick her up or anything.

Eventually I did more research and got a bigger cage, one that made handling much easier and with that I somehow, as if it happened over night, gained confidence to just pick her up and not be afraid. She lets me scratch her back and rub her without issues. I can grab her from above (which I know most hammies hate) and lift her up easily. She will happily walk onto my hand and often jumps from her platform into my hand for me to lower her down or pop her into her hammock. Then she runs through her obstacles, back to her platform expecting my hand to be there.

The Issue
All that is great but my problem is once I start to handle her, I have noticed she becomes a lot more...how do I put this... Faster, jumpy and speedy. She starts off moving from one hand to another and she is great to handle but then, as if she has downed a bucket of coffee, she is off!

Is this normal? How can I calm her down or keep her relaxed?

It gets to the point where she is so speedy and quick that I panic and don't want to risk losing her in the house so I just put her back in her cage and wait a while.

It all sounds normal to me, she's young, excited & wants to explore!
It's natural behaviour so you can't really calm her down, that may come when she gets older but now she wants to run around, you're right to worry about her escaping though so try to set up a safe area blocked off with cardboard or something if necessary or make/buy a playpen so she can run around safely while you interact with her.

I agree that sounds completely normal! If you can hamster proof a bit of your house/room or make a playpen she'll most likely calm down a bit when you're handling her. At the moment it sounds like the only "out" time she gets is when she's in your hands right? When Nibble was new and I was only letting him walk on my hands he was constantly trying to get away but now he gets time running around exploring the hallway he will sit still for a cuddle when I pick him up and I don't feel he is going to constantly try and run off. He doesn't run very fast anyway lol but he does get very very excited when he comes out to play, lots of squeaking!

That's alright then. She love running in her ball and is always out. She has a huge cage, Mamble 100, but hardly explores in it. I guess it comes in time and eventually we can have little cuddles. Thanks for the advice.

She sounds so much happier with her bigger cage and your bonding time.
It's great she's over excited and speedy.
Do you have an area that she could run about supervised? I use my hall, I block the doors with books and catalogues and let mine run about.
