Re: Cage swap with stressy ham
Sounds good - I think people usually say move all the old substrate across when you have a cage change, but if the new cage holds more, you could put a load of new substrate in and then put the old substrate on top.

Re: Cage swap with stressy ham
So agree with serendipity about the substrate,
It's a shame your little ham is so nervous. Hopefully, over time she'll get more confident when she moves into her new cage.

Re: Cage swap with stressy ham
I am still waiting for these toys to arrive, I'd rather heave them in there so we she goes in she can just take any stress out on the toys and destroy them rather than the cage. I love the extra level I brought for here, it expands to nearly double its ordinal size so it fits it pretty much any big cage. It's extremely Saturday as well, although the clips look like they could break off it too much force is added

Re: Cage swap with stressy ham
Hope they all arrive soon - it can be time consuming setting a cage up, but worth it when it's done.

Re: Cage swap with stressy ham
Well the 'big move' has finally taken place, and it's gone better than expected. I placed her in there and she took to it really well. She had a bit of a crazy moment when she carried one of her treats she had in her original cage and paced around the cage with it for about 20 minutes. However she soon found a place to put it and has now explored her entire cage, pulled apart one of her toys already and made a mess. She hasn't yet found a place to sleep, I put some bedding under the shelf and in the large house in there so she can choose, and she previously slept under a shelf. She is currently running her wheel with her pitches full of bedding. Thanks guys for the advice, I think Cinders really appreciates it and so do I!!

So happy to hear that Cinders has taken her cage move well.
Great that she's enjoying it.

Re: Cage swap with stressy ham
She has decided to sleep under the shelf, at the moment with no bedding. She has bedding available in the cage but she's not interested at the moment haha. I have never seen her sleep like this, she must be tired!

Re: Cage swap with stressy ham
Can you put some bedding near her under the shelf?
She seems content!
This new cage and her enjoying it has tired her out - what a little gem!

Re: Cage swap with stressy ham
Yes I have done now, she did this when we first brought her home, she doesn't make a nest which makes me feel bad for her so I make it around her haha.
