Re: Hamster wont go to bed :(?!
That looks a lot better layout than the other cage. I'm guessing it's a Zoozone 1? About 70cm wide? Maybe he will just see the house as a place to visit rather than sleep in - doesn't do any harm to have little hidey places in a cage to go and sit in. As Jen says, the Alaska is smaller than the Barney at 84cm wide. Or you could get a hamster heaven or a Savic Ruffy. If getting the Hamster Heaven though it's best to take the penthouse bit of the top and block the tubes off or they end up sleeping in tubes (or getting stuck or escaping!). Hamster Heaven and Savic Ruffy are both 80cm x 50cm

If your current cage is the Zoozone 1 though (about 70cm wide) it might be ok. It's a bit on the small side, but probably ok.
Rather than your shelf and current house, you could get this house, which I am sure he would nest in as it's a good size, and would also double up as a shelf! In fact if you had this house as the shelf, he'd have no option but to sleep in it lol as the house is under the 'shelf'/roof. I had a slightly bigger one for Charlie and he loved it because it was dark inside and big enough for his nest and his hoards. If you put a little tunnel or bridge over the door he'll probably just go in it and make a nest. The roof also lifts off so you can check him inside and spot clean in the house without having to remove it.
Or they also seem to like these plastic igloos, which are a fairly good size and have a built in tunnel entrance - that might fit under your shelf.

Re: Hamster wont go to bed :(?!
Cage looks nice. But I would still have his nest (doesn`t even need to be a box) under the shelf with plenty of nesting and remove that wooden hut on the shelf and put a square tissue box up there with a door cut at the front! They love a tissue box to rattle around and sit in. x

I think the igloo should fit under the shelf. You could maybe put it next to his current nest and put a treat inside and see if he moves in!

Re: Hamster wont go to bed :(?!
Thanks guys, the way the DIY went, the ladder has been secured down and theres no way of getting the igloo under now. Ill put the igloo on the shelf and do what you said with a box house and a treat underneath the shelf, so he has both.
Thanks for the great help, as always

Re: Hamster wont go to bed :(?!
No problem. Just looking at the set up again, you could maybe put the igloo next to the shelf (opposite side to the ladder - ie at the back next to the shelf) with the door pointing under the shelf to his current nest area.

Re: Hamster wont go to bed :(?!
Yes just let him sleep where he wants - he will anyway. My Hammy has 3 different nests in his cage and he moves from one to the other willy nilly. I don't interfere with them or anything it's just what he likes to do. As long as they're hapoy that's all that matters.
