Bottle Rage
So recently Pip aka the Fluff Monster (shes gotten big) and shes taken up the bad habbit of chewing (or rage pulling rather) the water bottle spout.
Now i have checked the thing, and it seems to be working fine. I'll try to buy a new one, but im not sure what to do if this does not fix the problem.
It wouldn't be so bad if she didn't make such a racket while doing it.
Anyone got any experience with this?

Re: Bottle Rage
What cage is she in?
I tend to have Syrians that are in tank style cages do this, such as the Mini Duna, or Duna Multy. I usually have my Syrians in barred cages for this reason as they seem to love climbing the bars instead and turn their attention away from the bottle.
It's mainly due to boredom rather than a faulty bottle. Is her wheel big enough? Some larger Syrians need a wheel of a minimum 11 inches, or they won't use anything smaller and turn to other behaviours such as bar biting/bottle biting. Having a variety of chew toys may also help, not just the same type.

Re: Bottle Rage
I believe Plumcore has a Duna Maxi. And it wasn't easy to get, either.
So maybe some climbing toys?

Re: Bottle Rage
I have Duna Maxi, and she has the biggest trixie wheel on the market. She has 3+4 different chew things, and a couple of climbing stuff. The problem with climbing is that, im worried if she gets to the grill top, she will monkey bar, and may fall on some of the other stuff on the bottom. Don't want her to break something.

Re: Bottle Rage
I have the detolf and I use a metal water bottle holder (forgotten what it's Called!) and one of my hamsters muffin was obsessed with climbing on it. This was very very loud and one day she got her foot stuck. She was completely fine but just to be sure I removed it from her cage and replaced it with a water bowl. However she is a VERY messy hamster so this has to be changed and refilled 2-3 times a day! This is an effort but I don't want to risk her hurting herself. But some people find the water bowl to be a much more natural drinking system but it's completely up to you. X

You could use industrial Velcro to attach ia bottle to the side of the cage. Much better than using a water bowl!! This would apply to the original question but just a thought for your detolf. X

Re: Bottle Rage
I had this for a bit when Cleo was in the duna multy. The bottle worked okay but the angle it was sat as stopped it flowing properly. I also found the spout was thinner & stuck through more with a Classic bottle but the ferplast bottle (not the horrible sippy though) has a wider spout & sits better in the hole, which stopped occasional "oh there's a thing to pull at" chewing. So for me, the rage chewing lets me know if the bottle isn't freely flowing. Might be worth loosening the kid ever so slightly as this can help. Sometimes when you test them in your hand or give them a shake they seem to work but not enough for your ham to drink from it. Next time she's drinking from it, check for air bubbles rising so you'll know water is coming out.

Re: Bottle Rage
I did noice that at times the bubbles are not coming out, and thats when she goes all RAWRS on it. I generally have to slightly press the bottle for droplets to come out. She does have a bowl in her cage as extra security, but she prefers the bottle. Do you have a picture of the bottle that worked well?

Re: Bottle Rage
It's the 150ml ferplast drinky that I have.
Ferplast Drinky Water Bottle
It seems to fit in the hole better. But try have the bottle at different angles & loosen the lid a tiny bit.
