Unhappy Hamster is afraid to go down tubes.

Hello there, I have had my dwarf hamster for 3 days now and he has one of the largest critter trail cages I could get with two levels. I understand these aren't the best cages and will be getting/making him a larger one sometime this next week but he doesn't do very much running around right now anyways as he is still adjusting. My concern right now is that he finds his way up the tube to the top, but can't get down. He seems to be too scared to climb down, today I went and bought some more tubes to make the drop less verticle and more like stairs so it wouldn't be as scary but he doesn't seem to take the chance and would rather just curl up in the corner and not try anymore, but I can tell it really stresses him out being stuck up top. Is this normal and does anyone have tips to combat this? I keep the entrance to the tube blocked when I am not in the room as he keeps getting stuck up top and my boyfriend or myself have to "rescue" him.

I think steep tubes aren't good for dwarf hamsters and they need to be horizontal really if you can set them up like that.

I think you're right. I have kept the large tube blocked since posting this thread and don't think I'll be opening it. He seems to enjoy the small tubes and doesn't have problems getting up and down those but the large tube even with the extra pieces added to make it more like stairs he won't chance going down them, but once I have the new cage built it won't be a problem anymore. Thank you @Serendipity7000
