Exclamation Does Gimley have anxiety?

Hello,

I have recently read in hamsters for dummies that over obsessive cleaning is a sign of anxiety and Gimley is cleaning more now but Gimley is getting old and a cage cleaning is due. So is it normal for an elderly hamster to wash more or wash more when the cage needs cleaning or both.
Does anybody have any steps or advice for stopping anxiety in hamsters?

Help would be appreciated

I think hamsters are natural anxious by nature, due to being prey animals. Excessive washing is a sign of stress though, but they all do tend to have a good wash once a day anyway. I now leave Charlie in the cage and only really do partial cleans and only do a full clean once in a blue moon. One thing that does stress them is their environment changing too much. I don't think he would stress because it needed cleaning, he'd probably just chuck the dirty stuff in a big pile somewhere!
