Neville was a naughty hamster this evening!!
I had been staying at my Mum's house for a couple of days - so Neville had not had any out of cage time during that time. So when I got home and found him up and about in his cage at the usual time, I took him out, gave him a cuddle and then let him run around my bedroom. Not something I let him do every day, but I felt I had some making up to do.
I sat on the floor as I normally do when he is running round my bedroom - amusing myself on my computer and letting him come to me at regular intervals on his way round to say hello. Except today he didn't come and visit me much. And after about 45 minutes, and time to go back, I couldn't see or hear him so went to investigate. He had decided to go out on a limb - and that around my bed was to be his new home. I found him behind the bed - where I couldn't reach him as the bed had a build in headboard which stretched from top to floor in one solid piece. I peered over and saw him unashamedly scent marking the 2 inch by 4 foot six area and looking at me as I called his name. I tried coaxing him out with a treat - he was tempted but knew my game - he would not come out far enough for me to pick him up. I managed to block off his re-entry to the scented area - but he then went and sat under my bed itself -again where I could not reach him.
All in all it took me 45 MINUTES catch him. I put him back in his cage - then a little while later I let him out again - but this time on the sofa with me, where could watch him closely - and I told him again and again, in a gentle voice of course, what I naughty naughty boy he had been.
It will be some days before he gets to run around my bedroom again - naughty naughty boy!!
