Thumbs down Biting me hard

Hi guys, my hamster is almost already 9 months old and ive been with him about 5 months and hes still not use to me yet, like when I put my hand down for the first time yesterday to see if he would go on it just two little tiny nips and he went on it gave him a little kiss and put him back and he felt safe about it but then I tried it again later and he bit me so hard it made me bleed and now I don't even wanna try it again how do I make him feel safer?

Their bites can be blooming painful.
I think you need to go back to the basics, the tissue trick works wonders, stuff tissues up your sleeves and leave a couple of hours then put them in his cage for him to get familiar with your smell.
Talk softly to him and whenever he comes out and about in his cage encourage him and praise him.
Some hams feel safer in their cage/their territory, make sure you wash your hands and rub them in the substrate and offer him some treats, all the time encouraging and praising him.
Hamsters can sense your moods, so if you appear nervous he'll feel nervous.
Just take it slowly and go at a pace that suits your ham.

I had a similar issue with one of mine a week ago so I've had to take a few steps backwards. I've been alternating just making a fist (to prevent her mistaking my fingers for food) and putting it on the floor of her cage to allow her to have a sniff around me to feeding her a few treats from my fingers. All of this I've done without going to pick her up as I want her to feel as reassured by me as she can before I try anything else. So far it seems to be going okay. The tissue is also a great idea and both of mine will have a tissue with my scent on in their cages.

Some hamsters seem to take longer than others to settle and I think the key is patience. I hamsters seem to be perceptive little animals and don't like to be rushed.
