Question hammy trying to escape

Over the past week my hamster has been trying to escape his cage. As my cage is a plastic cage (big enough for a syrian) with a bar top he will try constsntly all night to jump and grab hold of the bars, try to dig out of the glass or nibble at the cage clips. Ive tried giving him new toys, treats and taking him out every day but he still persists any idea how I can soothe him as he seems pretty annoyed

What size is your cage? It might be too small for him. Hamsters do like plenty of space to play and dig in.
I would maybe use some small bulldog clips to add to the clips on the cage to prevent escape.
Have you changed anything in the room he's in? Do you have any other pets?

The cage is 40x30cm. Nothing has changed in the room and I do have a dog but he never really interacts with the hamster and the hamster is away from harm

I think the cage size is probably your problem, a syrian really needs a cage of at least 75x45 & preferably something more like 100x50 to be happy, a small cage can lead to all sorts of behavioural problems.

That's the problem, the cage is too small. Hamsters like their space to be able to play.
I agree with Cypher that a small cage can lead to behavioural problems which he's showing.
