Default Can they disturb each other

Hi guys,

well as you know i had Jezza the syrian for a couple of weeks and then got followed home by some pesky Robo's (now known as Pinky and the Brain) their cages are both in the living room and Jezza has become rather quiet... im concerned she may be jelous or unhappy... can they keep each other up or distrub one another??

I dont like seeing my baby like this and im handling her just as much as before and she gets just as much love and attention, but this new behaviour is concerning me!

Oh and at the same time and pinky and the brain appeared i upgraded her cage could this have anythign to do with it??

Please help!! Am i doing something wrong?

A concerned mother!!

Aww you do sound worried. What do you mean by quiet? Is she eating and drinking ok? Is she just hiding all the time? It may just be taking some time to adjust to her new surroundings? How long as it been now since she was moved? I doubt if the new hams are causing to much anxiety. Are the right next to each other? One of my hamsters seems to have a few autistic tendencies he likes his routine and doesn't react well to change but he settles down after a couple of weeks and gets back to normal. Unlike my girls who don't seem to care where I move them, when I get them up etc.

thanks for your reply, i am concerned but...after reading the posts im starting to think that she may be on heat. her tail keeps rising when i pick her up and stroking her... I moved her about a week ago so is it possible she is still getting used to her new cage?

I think she will take a few weeks to adjust to the new cage. It is quite stressful for a hammy to move cage. I would advise you not to clean out the cage for a couple of weeks, just do wet corner or potty cleans and when you do put some of her bedding back in with the fresh stuff so she still has her scent. Also add some food to her store area so she does not think all is lost. We always do this and they settle better after a clean.
Females come on heat every fourth night and when you stroke their back they will go into a little trance and raise their tail. She must be healthy enough though as they do not usually 'stand' if very stressed.
I doubt she is bothered about her new 'friends' the robos.
